The Almaguin Adult Learning Centre is having 2 Events in November:

Food & Finance begins Thursday, November 2, from 10 - 12, and runs once a week for 5 weeks, wrapping up on November 30. This 5 part online program focuses on two aspects of life that many of us struggle with: financial literacy and food security.

Food security will look at local available resources and how to make the most of them. Menu planning, shopping strategies, food handling and safety, understanding food labeling will be investigated and information sharing will be encouraged. The money management component will cover the basics of spending, banking, borrowing and saving in a series of hands-on lessons. Access to online Safe Food Handlers certification will be provided, improving both personal health and safety and employability, and a completion bonus is available.

Fresh Start begins Friday, November 3 from 10 - 12, and will run once a week for 5 weeks. In this 5 module online course, learners will gain employment and life skills, and learn to reduce the stress and anxiety which often accompanies change. A graduation bonus is available upon completion. The program looks at:

• The elephant in the room - Change can be scary: reducing the stress and anxiety surrounding making changes
• Be prepared - Feeling prepared is half the battle: putting your best foot forward 
• Yeah, but … - New routines and asking for help: what to do about existing obligations and responsibilities
• Now what - You got the job, now what?: what happens when you get that job
• Wrap up – Pulling it all together and putting yourself out there
