About the Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid Meteor Shower is widely regarded as one of the best meteor showers of the year. Produced by debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids create bright streaks of light as they enter Earth's atmosphere at high speed.

August 12, 2026 is expected to be the peak viewing night for the Perseid Meteor Shower, offering some of the best opportunities of the year to observe meteors streaking across the night sky.

Under dark skies, observers may witness dozens of meteors per hour, including occasional bright fireballs that leave glowing trails across the sky.

Tom Thomson Park's natural setting provides an ideal location for enjoying this remarkable celestial event away from major urban light pollution.
